They are quite hardy and I don't need to turn on the oxygen pump because i felt that it was too powerful for the aquarium. I had it off during the 10 days I was away and when I got back, they were all still alive and swimming actively. These lucky 8 are my new pets for the time being. Or was it the girl's?

Small Fishes Excrete A Lot
They are quite hardy and I don't need to turn on the oxygen pump because i felt that it was too powerful for the aquarium. i think small fishes excreet long poos. mine is a red paco and it's a foot big already. i don't see his (he's a male) poo attatched to him but i see that our aquarim is somewhat dirty at the bottom part...i knew he pooed. Hehehe...
ReplyDeletejean marie - hehehe when I got these fishes, i actually thought they poo less compares to goldfishes...but guess I was wrong..heheh
ReplyDeleteLivebearers are mostly heavy eaters. So they poo a lot but cannot compete with goldfish.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they can live without additional oxygen from air pump unlike fancy goldfish. In fact most of the fishes can live without it. Fancy goldfish has a "disability" :)
Most of the time air pump does not serve a lot of purpose. It will be more useful to connect it to a filter (a cheap internal box filter is better than none). It helps to reduce the debris floating around in the tank + it serves to grow beneficial bacteria. Yeah, fishes need bacteria to be alive just like human - without bacteria we'll die. You can google to find more info about cycling an aquarium.
thanks for your advice again, umbrella rec. you really know so much about fishes. salute u for that!
ReplyDeleteI'm a nut case :) I have 6-7 tanks in an apartment. I guess that's the price I pay I learn about fishes!!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I am your twin's brother. Your twin - Nancy :)
6-7 tanks! wow, you would do well to be in aquaculture. my late dad was in but due to lack of funds from the govt, he had to opt to close his aquaculture farm. the only way for him to dispense what he knows was writing to forums since he, too can't afford to print books. of course at that point of time, i was too young to understand what he wrote and thought they were boring..hehehe
ReplyDeleteanyways, it is an honour to meet my twin's brother of course. have a good weekend, ya.
I wish your dad is still alive today. It would be nice to meet him. Aquaculture....hmm...interesting but I am not interested in "Ah Kua" (fag) culture :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes when I got really fed up of my boring IT job. I have thought of leaving for other industry but I don't have the guts, money & sufficient experience :(. Trust me there are many people who know much much more than me in aquarium stuff - I cannot even remember a single scientific name of aquarium plant or fish. I know the common names of some of them only. So there're more nuts who are "nutter" than myself :)
