Feeling Homesick

I've been plagued by the feeling of home-sickness recently. End of the year is the time where most of my friends are back for the holidays, and also having their year end gatherings and parties. Chinese New Year is also less than 2 months! My 2008 calendar shows the days on 7th, 8th and 9th in red. In Singapore, officially it will be official public holiday on the first two days.

I know going back will not be in my agenda this coming CNY. Now that my girl is in school, it is not a good idea. Skipping school will show on the school report cards. The eve is still a school going day for her. Thus, it will be too rush to drive back. With kids in the car, they get restless that even the dvds doesn't really help. We drove back this year (CNY, 2007). The traffic jam was terrible. It took us about almost 12 hours to travel from Malacca where we had stopped by for the night a day before. The jam at the North-South highway at Perak went like snails... It was such a terrible experience. I can't imagine if we drove direct from Singapore, how long will that be then! The traffic police that held all the checks on the highway made it even worst.

We are monitoring the budget airlines. Hopefully the rate will go down and there will be more flights. But gosh, the fuel charges are escalating.. that is not very good news. Tiger airways and Valueair may have flights to KL soon in February next year. If the flights are dirt cheap, perhaps we can do a transit to KL and then to Penang. Of course we will need to rent a car upon reaching Penang. If not this coming CNY, perhaps the next school holidays.

It's only few weeks left till end of the year. Did any of you go for any interesting holidays? Do you have any good recommendation for a wholesome family holiday?
