Japan Ranks Number 1 for Health

I was reading the Straits Times (Singapore) this morning.

Under the home section, it reported a health survey that the average Singaporean live longer up to age 81.8 (women) and 78 (men). HOWEVER out of these years, 8 of those year will be spent ill or disabled.

The highest cause of disability are diseases like heart attacks, stroke and diabetes.

Here are the top 4 diseases divided in both sexes.

Men:

  • 67% Injuries
  • 62% Chronic Respiratory
  • 58% Cardiovascular
  • 50% Cancer

Women:

  • 57% Musculoskeletal
  • 57% Mental
  • 50% Cancer
  • 49% Diabetes

If you look at it closely, Injury and Musculoskeletal is high in both men and women. Guess that means we should be going out and get more exercise but not too high impact. And healthy living in consumption should be for a good cause.

Its about time for that regular screening at your health clinic. Cut down on salt, processed foods and less fat. Eat more vegetable and fibre.
