Lea's Simple 4th Birthday

We celebrated Lea's Birthday on Monday 7th July. She had been asking about her birthday about a week before because I bought some flour, butter and stuff for baking cakes. I baked cupcakes for her classmates in class and she celebrated it in advance on the Friday before the weekend. It was going to be a longer weekend holiday since Monday was a school holiday for being Youth Day.

We didn't splurge on things as we did in the past years because looking at the gloomy economy everywhere, we should be tightening our belt. We brought the girls to Toys R Us to let them pick out what they really want for presents. Yes, when you have more than one kid, each birthday gift needs to be doubled to avoid sibling rivalry and favouritism. Rae got a bouncy ball that can sit and bounce and Lea chose some bathing accessories for her little baby doll Baby Ah Lai (Baby Alive). We had birthday lunch at an eatery in the mall.
At home, we celebrated with a homemade cake that Kakak made for Lea. She couldn't decide to have chocolate or butter cake so she actually decided to stack up the chocolate on the butter cake and used up our leftover fondant from cupcakes. I prop in a number 4 candle, a musical candle and that was a very simple home baked birthday cake. No creams, no fruits, no mess. I can pick the fondant off, Lea will eat the butter cake, Rae only takes chocolate cake and everyone is happy!
