On Chinese New Year's Day, we are not suppose to wash our hair because it would mean we would have washed away good luck for the New Year. Give it a good shampoo at the eve so you won't have to bother about having a bad hair day on the first day of Chinese New Year. Bad hair days just spoils our mood, mine especially.
Everyone should refrain from using foul language and bad or unlucky words. Negative terms and the word "four" (Sey, Si), which sounds like the word for death, are not to be uttered. Death and dying are never mentioned and ghost stories are totally taboo.
Red clothing is preferred during this festive occasion. Red is considered a bright, happy color, sure to bring the wearer a sunny and bright future, not to forget good luck and weath. It is believed that appearance and attitude during New Year's sets the tone for the rest of the year. Children and unmarried friends, as well as close relatives are given lai see, little red envelopes with crisp new notes inserted, for good fortune.
So have you prepared for the Chinese New Year? Anyone who has bought red undies? I heard that it is good luck to wear red undies. No wonder one tends to see so many on sale in the recent years. I am hunting for mine, lol...
Ang Pows are meant to be lucky, so its best to feel happy when you are giving it out. The Ang Pows given out will be returned few folds more. Think happy, be happy.
